The 19th edition of the Asian Games is going to start on 23rd September 2023, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Hangzhou will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games, after Beijing in 1990 (later hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics) and Guangzhou in 2010. Asia’s most popular game Kabaddi was introduced for the first time in the 1990 Asian Games held in Beijing China only. Till now men’s kabaddi team of India won seven times gold medals in Asian games while Iran won only one time. Iran is the defending champion in the Asian Games Men’s and women’s Kabaddi categories.
Originally scheduled to take place from 10 to 25 September 2022, the event was announced to be postponed to the year 2023 on 6 May 2022 due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic in China, amid the potential threat of new COVID-19 variants. On 19 July 2022, the new dates were announced to be from 23 September to 8 October 2023.
The Kabaddi event in the 19th edition of the Asian Games is scheduled to take place from October 2nd to October 7th, 2023. The official schedule for the Kabaddi events in the Asian Games 2023 has been announced. Similar to previous editions, all participating nations will be divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, in both the Men and Women categories.
The Indian Kabaddi Team has been the most successful team in the history of the Asian Games. They have secured 9 Gold medals in the men’s category and 7 Gold medals in the women’s category. In the previous edition, Iran emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s category matches.
